SARAJEVO, Jan 14 (Hina) - Special United States army units are
actively searching for the two most wanted war criminals, Radovan
Karadzic and Ratko Mladic, the Banja Luka daily Nezavisne Novine
said on Monday.
Quoting unnamed sources of NATO's Stabilisation Force and the
international community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the newspaper
claims around 300 U.S. rangers have recently been deployed in the
Bosnia-Serbia-Montenegro border area and on the Zelengora and
Romanija mountains, often stated as Karadzic's hideout.
The U.S. units were deployed two weeks ago, with the operation
allegedly based on a firm agreement with Montenegrin President Milo
Djukanovic to the effect that Karadzic will not be allowed across
the border in the event of a chase.
Nezavisne Novine says the extradition of Mladic to the UN war crimes
tribunal at The Hague is very likely after it has been established
for a fact that he is hiding in Belgrade. Belgrade and The Hague are
engaged in "hot negotiations" on the extradition, the paper says.
