ZAGREB, Jan 7 (Hina) - The Zagreb Municipal Court on Monday passed a verdict with the possibility of appeal in the case against Nikica Jelavic and another four persons indicted for multi-million frauds, extortion and money laundering,
acquitting the indicted persons due to a lack of evidence. The panel of judges, chaired by Zdravko Majerovic, acquitted Nikica Jelavic, Blaz Petrovic, Zeljko Vinkesevic and Ivan Geceg, and Zoran Pripuz, who was tried in absentia, because he is at large. The trial, also known as the trial against a so-called small criminal organisation, lasted for seven months, during which the Prosecution changed the indictment on three occasions. The judges concluded there were no sufficient evidence to indicate that the indictees had committed the crimes and passed the acquitting verdict.(hina) it sb
