ZAGREB, Jan 1 (Hina) - Many Croatian citizens celebrated New Year in the open, in their towns' central squares, enjoying in performances by musicians and dancers. Some 20,000 Zagreb residents celebrated New Year in the central Ban Jelacic Square. Numerous veterans, parents of killed soldiers, war invalids and other citizens from the entire country celebrated New Year for the fourth consecutive year in front of a stone cross near the River Danube in the easternmost town of Vukovar, paying tribute to all soldiers who died defending the country. Two people sustained serious and another four light injuries in last night's celebrations due to inappropriate handling of firearms, pyrotechnic and other explosive devices, the Interior Ministry reported.(hina) rml
