The contemporary family is "marked by certain weaknesses," Bishop
Jezerinac said in the message.
He added the Croatian family was "transitional", with a tendency to
"accept the materialistic and hedonistic lifestyle", while at the
same time being burdened with "the tragedy of aggression and
defence in the Homeland War", living "secularly", exposed to the
negative influence of "contemporary media entertainment".
Jezerinac warned that the latest demographic data indicated that
"Croatia is undergoing extinction", and added that "our
responsibility before God and before history is at stake at this
watershed moment".
The military ordinary also pointed out that researches showed that
"our people are demographically optimistic because the majority
wish two or more children" and that this fact was "a challenge and
encouragement to the new authorities in Croatia".
