The SDP's only regret is that Sanader's statement was not made four
years ago and given to Croatian media "because in that case, we
certainly wouldn't be asking ourselves why Croatia wasn't part of
the first European Union enlargement round".
The SDP recalled that all human rights, including to property, were
guaranteed to all Croatian citizens by the Constitution, and said
that no further guarantees from any party were necessary in that
respect.
In an interview with French news agency AFP yesterday, Sanader
called on all Serb refugees to return to Croatia, saying that all of
their rights would be guaranteed, including ownership rights.
AFP says in the interview, to be released in its entirety next week,
that Sanader's party, currently in the opposition, was known for
its anti-Serb positions.
