Verheugen stressed that the government's credibility in resolving
open political issues was crucial for the further assessment of
Croatia's readiness to become a European Union member, Mesic's
office said in a statement.
Mesic briefed Verheugen about the development of Croatia's
cooperation with neighbouring countries, the current political
situation in the country, and the building of the infrastructure.
Verheugen applauded Mesic's role in the development of Croatia's
cooperation with the EU as well as his activities aimed at
normalising the situation in the region.
