At the start of the closed door session, the commissioner of the
European Union Police Mission (EUPM) in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Sven
Frederiksen, said this kind of cooperation was very important for
the entire region.
Frederiksen said first results in cooperation in the struggle
against organised crime were encouraging, with some success
achieved in crack-downs on networks of criminals involved in
trafficking of humans, money forgery and theft of cars as well as
arms smuggling.
SEPCA was established in the Croatian coastal city of Pula in
January 2002. During a regular session it held in early 2003, five
committees were set up to improve cooperation in police officers'
training and in different aspects of the fight against organised
crime and violence at sporting events.
Canada financially supports SEPCA activities.
