The event pooled around 100 participants from Croatia, Italy,
Slovenia, Greece, Albania and Serbia and Montenegro, who discussed
integration processes and regional cooperation.
The topics discussed included relations between the EU and South-
East European countries, "Adriatic Action Plan 2020", which is
based on the Adriatic-Ionian Agenda 21, and the role of local self-
government bodies in integration processes in South-East Europe.
Commenting on Croatia's decision to declare a protected fishing and
ecological zone in the Adriatic, Rijeka Mayor Vojko Obersnel said
that it was an important contribution to efforts to prevent the
destruction of the Adriatic Sea and continue dialogue in the
Adriatic area.
Italian representatives voiced concern about the fishing and
ecological zone, stating that it should not have been adopted
without consultations with other concerned countries.

international association founded in 1999 to promote economic
cooperation and cooperation in the field of social care, culture
