"Historians will pass judgement about Alija Izetbegovic the
statesman. We are left to grieve for a man, humanist, Bosniak and
believer who above anything loved Bosnia-Herzegovina, and nobody
could take it away from him," Mesic wrote in the book of condolence,
adding he considered it an honour to be called Izetbegovic's
friend.
President Mesic was accompanied by his advisor on foreign policy,
Ivica Mastruko, and the advisor on science and education, Esad
Prohic.
Prohic will be Mesic's personal envoy at Izebegovic's funeral in
Sarajevo on Wednesday.
The Croatian government has stated that its representative at the
funeral will be Deputy Prime Minister Ante Simonic.
