forwarded a note of congratulations to Pope John Paul II on the
occasion of his jubilee - the 25th anniversary of his pontificate.

"The past quarter century of your papal service has left a mark not
only on the history of the Catholic Church and world history, but it
also left a special mark on Croatia's history," the note said.
"You showed us your concern particularly during Croatia's struggle
for independence and international recognition," Mesic wrote,
adding that the Pope's messages were an encouragement to Croatia to
become a country of peace, justice and human dignity.
