ZAGREB, Oct 14 (Hina) - The chairman of the Croatian parliament's
committee on human rights and the rights of national minorities,
Furio Radin, said on Tuesday that representatives of minorities
expected the ruling coalition to adopt a decision tomorrow in
parliament on the minorities' right to double vote. #L#
Radin said that such a change of the political will could take place
only by some miracle.
At today's session of the committee, which focused on the issue
whether minorities should have double-voting rights at
parliamentary elections, minority representatives expressed
outrage because the Consitutional Court refused to give an
authentic interpretation of the provision of the Election Law which
determines the number of votes a person is entitled to in an
election.
The parliament's Committee on the Constitution, Rule Book and the
Political System last week decided that members of national
minorities can vote only once in an election as in that way they are
equal to all other citizens.
