The festival, to last until October 11, will feature some 30 films
which are the first or second work of their directors.
The films are competing in three categories - feature films,
documentaries and short films.
The main attractions of the festival are the Russian film "The
Return" by Andrey Zvyagintsev, the winner of the "Golden Lion" at
this year's Venice Film Festival, and "Lost in Translation" by
Sophia Coppola.
Many of the films at the festival and their directors have won
awards at international festivals, including "Blissfully Yours" by
Apichatpong Weerasethakul of Thailand, "Madame Sata" by Karim
Ainouz of Brazil, and "All Hell Let Loose" by Susan Taslimi of
Sweden.
