"We can assure the Croatian public that security services have not
placed themselves at the service of politicking, and clearly reject
any possibility of wire-tapping as alleged by HDZ president, Ivo
Sanader", the president of the Sabor's committee Ante Markov said
following an extraordinary meeting of the committee which convened
today in response to statements made by Sanader and his party's club
on the issue.
Following this closed meeting Markov told the press that the heads
of the Counter-Intelligence, Military Intelligence and
Intelligence Agencies (POA, VOA & OA) clearly and unequivocally
said that not one politician from the Croatian Sabor was currently
being tapped, including Sanader and other HDZ heads.
Markov stressed that HDZ's member of the home affairs committee did
not present any material evidence.
Markov pointed out that compared to 1999, intelligence suspects had
been significantly decreased and this year only 78 cases were
approved by the Supreme Court and no politician was the subject of
this year's wiretapping.
