SARAJEVO, Aug 11 (Hina) - The security situation in the Muslim-
Croat federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina this year is more or less
the same as last year, according to the results of an analysis
published by the Federal Interior Ministry on Monday. #L#
The number of serious crimes, such as murder, dropped in the first
six months of this year compared to the same period last year.
On the other hand, the crime rate has risen in four out of ten
cantons, namely in the Tuzla, Una-Sana, Herzegovina-Neretva and
Posavina cantons. This is attributed to a rise in drug trafficking,
which has increased in the Federation as a whole by as much as 76
percent compared to 2002.
The report said that the police managed to solve 94 percent of
murder cases, concluding that the overall security situation was
satisfactory. It urged that other measures than repressive action
also be taken to maintain this trend.
The analysis did not cover a series of incidents and bomb attacks
that recently occurred in the Sarajevo area.
