CROATIAN COMPANIES SPEND 2% OF INCOME ON BRIBERY

ZAGREB, July 27 (Hina) - Croatian companies spend less on bribery than companies in other transitional countries, according to Trgovina (Trade) magazine. Assessing the business operations of 3,000 Croatian companies, experts from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) have found that they spend only 2.1 percent of their annual income on bribery. According to figures from the EBRD, companies in Slovenia spend 3.4 percent on bribery and those in the former Soviet republic of Georgia as much as 8.1 percent. The figures show that Russian companies are most inclined to bribery to win lucrative business deals abroad. The full scale of corruption in Croatia is unknown although it is widely known that it affects normal business operations, keeps foreign investors away and discourages domestic entrepreneurs.
