POLICE ARREST SUSPECTS IN FOREST FIRES IN SOUTHERN CROATIA

DUBROVNIK, July 20 (Hina) - A 48-year-old man from the Konavle area of southern Croatia has been arrested and remanded in custody on suspicion of intentionally causing forest fires in the area, police said on Sunday. An investigation revealed that the man, identified as M. K., started fires by pouring petrol over the grass and lower parts of pinetrees. A jerrycan of petrol and 11 cigarette lighters were found in his vehicle, a statement from the Dubrovnik Police Department said. The man was arrested on Saturday and was unofficially identified as Miso Koprivica. Police have also arrested a 27-year-old man from Slavonski Brod, identified as B. L., on suspicion of starting a fire on the border with Serbia and Montenegro at about 2045 hours on Thursday. An investigation is under way.
