Prime Minister Ivica Racan said the government endorsed an LS
motion that the LS party president be appointed environmental
protection minister. He called on deputies to support the motion
and voice confidence in Banac, reminding that the current minister
Bozo Kovacevic (also of the LS) was leaving to Moscow to be
Croatia's Ambassador to Russia.
Of the Opposition parties, only the Croatian Block (HB)
participated in the debate on voice confidence in Banac. The party,
however, refused to support Banac's appointment because it
believed the LS president was lacking skills necessary to perform
this duty.
Parliament resumed its session with a debate on amendments to the
Bankruptcy Act.
