Today's voting on amendments to a final draft law on science and
higher education was marked by a heated debate between Tomcic and
the HDZ deputies, especially Zdenka Babic-Petricevic, who was
given three reprimands because Tomcic said her comments were
obstructing the debate. One reprimand was withdrawn at the demand
of the HDZ MPs.
Tomcic reprimanded the chairman of the HDZ bench, Vladimir Seks, as
well.
Speaking on behalf of the bench, Jadranka Kosor accused Tomcic of
being selective towards MPs and their rights and obligations in
parliament. She asked for the equal treatment of everybody.
Tomcic said all deputies were entitled to speak in parliament but
not obstruct its work.
After the debate, parliament adopted with a majority vote the law on
science and higher education which, in line with European Union
standards, regulates the financing of science and higher
education, research projects, and the work of universities and
scientific institutions.
