STATISTICS: GDP GROWS 4.9% IN FIRST QUARTER

ZAGREB, June 27 (Hina) - Croatia's Gross Domestic Product grew in this year's first quarter by 4.9 percent compared to the same period last year, the State Bureau of Statistics reported Friday.
ZAGREB, June 27 (Hina) - Croatia's Gross Domestic Product grew in this year's first quarter by 4.9 percent compared to the same period last year, the State Bureau of Statistics reported Friday. #L# Last year's growth of GDP in Croatia amounted to 5.2 percent. The highest rise was noted in capital investments which increased by as much as 16.2% in this year's first quarter in comparison to the same period last year. Exports and imports of goods and services also increased in that period, by 14.% and 10.3% respectively. After last year's quarterly growth rates from six to 7.3% in the last trimester, increase in personal consumption haltered early this year. Personal spending in this year's first three months, thus, increased by 4.9 percent. State expenditure continued to drop for the 12th consecutive trimesters, so it decreased by 0.7 percent in this year's first quarter in relation to last year's last quarter. Per activities, the highest growth was noted in construction, by 16.6%, trade by 9.9%, financial transactions by 7.9%, transport, warehousing and communications by 7.3%, manufacturing industry and power supply by 4.8%, and hotels and restaurants by 2.7%. A drop was registered only in agriculture and mining, by 1.1%. According to the bureau of statistics, overall GDP in the first quarter was 43.49 billion kuna (EUR5.8 bln), which is more than three billion kuna higher than in the same period last year.
