DUBROVNIK, June 26 (Hina) - The 9th international conference on transitional banking started in Dubrovnik Thursday in the organisation of the Croatian National Bank (HNB). #L# The three-day conference has gathered 80 participants, experts from the country and abroad, including representatives of the most significant financial institutions, such as the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and representatives of numerous business and investment banks. The conference was opened by Croatian Vice-Premier Slavko Linic. Commenting on Croatia's financial position in relation to other countries in transition, Linic said it was obvious Croatia was trying to have its own path and needed foreign capital because a part of its own had perished during the Homeland War. A significant amount of funds had to be invested into Croatia's defence and an enormous amount into post-war reconstruction, Linic stressed, adding that on the other hand, Croatia had had ten years of failures in transition, i.e. a completely failed model of privatisation, and, in its implementation, "a number of crimes against property where capital we had was spent".
