The government is realising what it promised, deadlines, quality
standards and the necessary construction licenses are respected,
Racan told reporters in the government building.
According to the director of the Croatian Highways company, Stanko
Kovac, construction works on highway sections which will be opened
this year total 5.5 billion kuna (EUR733 million), with the Zagreb-
Split highway accounting for most of the funds, or some 4.2 billion
kuna. The government will invest 6.8 billion kuna in the
construction of the highway next year and around 1.24 billion in the
last construction year, 2005.
The government's commission for highways is working intensively on
a project to build the highway further to Dubrovnik, Racan said.
Not including the 138.5 kilometres due to be opened in a couple of
days, a total of 54.7 kilometres of roads have been constructed,
handed over or opened for traffic.
