Opening the conference, the president of the Austrian Chamber of
Commerce and of the European Chamber of Commerce, Christoph Leitl,
pointed to "exceptional economic cooperation between Croatia and
Austria".
"Overall trade last year exceeded a billion euros. Austrian
companies have invested more than two billion euros into Croatia,
which indicates great confidence in the development of the Croatian
economy, of which we are very proud," Leitl said.
He stressed Austria supported Croatia on its path towards the
European Union, adding that, although not yet an EU member, Croatia
was a member of the European Chamber of Commerce.
As soon as Croatia makes the necessary adjustment in which economic
development is very important, the sooner it will become a full
member of the EU, "which we shall fully support and applaud", Leitl
said. He expressed hope that Croatian Economy Day would contribute
to the further development of economic cooperation between the two
friendly countries.
"Croatia has always considered Austria a friend, which (Austria)
keeps proving with its unselfish support to Croatia's efforts in
the process of drawing closer to the EU," Jurcic said.
The Croatian minister stressed Austrian investors were on the top
of the list according to foreign investments in Croatia. "Croatia
and Austria have very good friendly relations," he said.
Jurcic spoke to Croatian and Austrian businessmen and
representatives of financial institutions about Croatia's economy
policy, the current situation and economic activities in the coming
period, as well as about inclusion into international economic
courses, which, he said, "mostly go through Austria".
The economy minister described Croatian Economy Day as another step
forward on the grounds of cooperation hitherto and in the sense of
future agreements on new forms of business cooperation.
Croatian Maritime Affairs, Transport and Communications Minister
Roland Zuvanic spoke about Croatia's road development policy and
roads connecting the north and south of the country in which Austria
and Croatia have great plans and mutual interests.
Croatian Chamber of Commerce president Nadan Vidosevic pointed to
the exceptional cooperation between the two countries' chambers of
commerce, whose result is the holding of the sixth traditional
Economy Day organised by the two chambers in cooperation with the
Croatian Embassy in Austria.
Croatian Economy Day is an opportunity for direct agreements among
representatives of Croatian and Austrian companies about future
concrete business cooperation.
