KNIN, June 16 (Hina) - During his visit to Golubic near the southern Croatian town of Knin, Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on Monday commented on yesterday's European waterpolo championship finals between Croatia and Serbia and Montenegro and incidents between the two countries' fans. #L# Mesic said he was sorry the incident took place. He said this was a game of high risk, adding that in his opinion the organisation of the game was not good either. "I am sorry that the incident took place, one excess always leads to another and it takes two sides to create an incident. Also the game was not well organised," Croatia's head of state said. Mesic visited the Golubic construction site at which 120 family houses for Bosnian Croat refugees will be built this summer. The government has invested 25 million kuna into the project. The president and his associates visited Kovacic where a water supply system is being built with the financial support of the Swiss government. Commenting on the Gotovina case, President Mesic said the general's guilt would be established by the UN war crimes tribunal at The Hague, adding he only advocated Gotovina's right to defence. Gotovina must have the same right as others and the fact is that he has been stripped off that right and is a victim of the former government. "He was not allowed to talk and had he been allowed, maybe he would have been given the same status as General Stipetic," Mesic reiterated. "Everything I do as Croatia's president (in Gotovina's case) is directed only towards that, and even if the indictment against him is not changed, other situations will arise," said Mesic. (hina) it
