"We expect messages of peace, love and tolerance, but also a message
about European association," President Mesic said ahead of the
pope's arrival.
"Messages the pope will give today and in the next several days
during his stay in Croatia will be of special importance because
Croatia is joining the European Union and the Holy See advocates the
uniting of Europe as soon as possible," Mesic said at an
international garden exhibition, "Floraart".
This afternoon, Mesic and Croatian statesmen and Church
dignitaries will welcome the Holy Father at the airport at the
northern Adriatic island of Krk.
