"We are drawing closer at a faster pace than other countries. In
several years we have achieved that for which some need a decade and
more," a member of the delegation, Marin Jurjevic, said upon
returning from the assembly's spring session in Prague.
Croatia can expect to be invited into NATO in 2004, he added.
According to him, NATO does not demand from Croatia anything out of
the ordinary but to promote democracy, a law-based state, human
rights, etc.
The head of the delegation, Viktor Broz, is satisfied with
Croatia's progress in relation to countries of the Vilnius Group
being mentioned in a report of the sub-committee for eastern and
central Europe.
But, Croatia was criticised for the status of its national
minorities, especially the Italian minority, and its insufficient
cooperation with the U.N. war crimes tribunal for the ex-
Yugoslavia.
