Commenting on plans about the privatisation of the Croatia
Osiguranje insurance company, and a possible share of the Catholic
Church in its ownership, which has been speculated about in the
media, Archbishop Bozanic said at a news conference on Wednesday
that this initiative had not been launched by the Church but by the
public and authorities.
The Church has no official stand on the issue and the initiative
will be considered by the Croatian Bishops' Conference, said the
dignitary, answering questions of reporters who asked him how much
he was satisfied with the tempo of the implementation of the
treaties between Zagreb and the Vatican.
"The Church is willing to help the state authorities to fulfil
commitments they have assumed under the treaties," Bozanic said,
adding that "what we sign should be taken seriously". He also said
that not everything that was stipulated by the treaties had been
carried out yet.
He added that the Church would like to be co-operative in all of
these issues, and if it insisted on something, it was because the
Church could do its mission.
Bozanic's news conference was organised on the occasion of world
media day, the final celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the
Zagreb church metropolitan area and the third upcoming visit of
Pope John Paul II to Croatia.
