discussed final draft amendments to the Law on Official Statistics
which adjust the process of collecting statistical data with the
principles of a UN charter on official statistics. #L#
According to the amendments, in collecting statistical data, one
should respect the principles of objectivity, expertise and the use
of information exclusively for statistical purposes.
The new law should secure a better functioning of the data
collection system by establishing three statistical registers --
for companies, agriculture and economy, and houses and flats.
The amendments also suggest the founding of a statistical council
as an advisory and expert body for strategic issues. The body would
comprise of the head of the National Bureau of Statistics and
representatives of 12 state administration bodies.
The new law bans the distribution and publishing of statistical
data in cases when it is possible to directly or indirectly
establish who provided information for processing.
MPs adopted without a discussion a government-sponsored draft
programme of supervision of financial institutions and the
financial market on a consolidated basis, as well as a report on
decrees the government passed in line with its legal authority.
The Croatian Democratic Union bench, however, voiced
dissatisfaction with the fact that government representatives had
not turned up for the session.
"This is important for the parliament's dignity because the non-
attendance of government representatives in sessions is occurring
constantly," Luka Bebic said.
