VALBANDON, May 20 (Hina) - Expanding good cooperation between the
State Prosecutor's Office and police is the objective of a meeting
of county state prosecutors and criminal police chiefs in Istria's
Valbandon on Tuesday. #L#
This is the first time a working meeting was convened between State
Prosecutor Mladen Bajic, head of police Ranko Ostojic, all county
state prosecutors and criminal police chiefs from 20 police
departments.
Interior Minister Sime Lucin, Justice Minister Ingrid Anticevic
Marinovic, Ostojic and Bajic stressed at the beginning that
cooperation between the State Prosecutor's Office and police was a
condition for the efficiency of criminal proceedings. The
cooperation, said the officials, is not interference by the
executive authority in affairs of the judiciary.
Lucin says cooperation between the State Prosecutor's Office and
police, as a foundation for success in joint activities, must be
accepted as a natural thing in Croatia, as it is in other democratic
countries.
Recent amendments to the Criminal Procedure Act created room for
such cooperation and further amendments to the act will enable the
transformation of the State Prosecutor's Office into "the master of
the procedure", while the police will have the role of its service
in criminal proceedings, Lucin said.
Justice Minister Anticevic Marinovic said the amended act would be
sent to parliamentary procedure by the end of the year. The
amendments are aimed at more efficient and accelerated prosecution
of crimes, the minister said.
