WASHINGTON, May 19 (Hina) - Voice of America reported in Washington

Voice of America reported that Del Ponte said last Thursday before
the U.S. Congress' Helsinki Committee that the Croatian government
knew the whereabouts of ICTY indictee Ante Gotovina, but did not
want to arrest him for political reasons.
After a harsh reaction by the Croatian government whose
representative voiced his concern to the ICTY Office in Zagreb
because "it is contrary to reality", the government issued a
statement according to which a representative of the ICTY office
said that Voice of America misinterpreted Del Ponte's words.
Del Ponte herself said in Belgrade on Monday that she was
misinterpreted.
Voice of America claims that it had correctly cited the chief
prosecutor of the UN war crimes tribunal at the Hague and offers an
audio recording of Del Ponte's statement at its web site
www.glasamerike.com.
