BELGRADE, May 19 (Hina) - The attorney for former head of the Serbian Interior Ministry's National Security Service, Vladan Vukcevic, on Monday asked of an investigative judge to apply to his client a measure other than detention
because he needed immediate surgery and hospital treatment, after which he would travel to The Hague.

Jovica Stanisic and a former commander and founder of the Unit for
Special Operations aka Red Berets, Franko Simatovic, are indicted
for war crimes in Croatia and Bosnia from 1991 through 1995. Both
men were arrested during a police operation, "Sabre", launched
after the assassination of Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic on
March 12.
According to their lawyers, both ICTY indictees were ready to
surrender to the UN war crimes tribunal at The Hague even before
they had been apprehended.
