The former Zagreb County State Prosecutor resigned in mid April
after Chief State Prosecutor Mladen Bajic informed him that he was
suspected of illegal activities.
Bajic then reported that suspicions were roused during a pre-
investigative proceedings into a criminal gang that were secretly
being watched by the police.
Canjuga was then transferred to the office of a deputy county state
prosecutor in Zlatar from where he came in November 2001 to the
office of Zagreb County state prosecution.
The press reported that during a police investigation into
corruption in the judiciary and secret phone tapping a conversation
was recorded between Batarelo and Canjuga in which they made
allegedly a deal to decrease sentences for certain cases and to
share amounts of bribery.
