COMMEMORATION FOR GENERAL BOBETKO HELD IN HDZ HEADQUARTERS

ZAGREB, April 30 (Hina) - A commemoration for the late General Janko Bobetko was held on Wednesday in the headquarters of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) in the presence of party representatives and family members. Bobetko was an HDZ member and its representative in parliament. #L# "We are proud of his work and of the fact that we shared with him an unwavering desire for justice and freedom, as well as of the fact that it was in the HDZ that he saw the realisation of his political ideals and remained its senior official until the end of his life," party leader Ivo Sanader said. He recalled the general's important role in the anti-fascist struggle and his suffering during the communist regime. Speaking about Bobetko's role in the Homeland War and his "charisma as a victorious general," Sanader said the Homeland War was also anti-fascist because the Croatian people fought against the fascist Greater Serbian policy. "We shall not allow any re-interpretation of the recent Croatian history. The Homeland War was just, defensive, legitimate and liberating and nobody will change that truth and General Bobetko's role in the Homeland War," Sanader said. (hina) lml sb
