Following a meeting with Serbian Premier Zoran Zivkovic, Powell
said he was pleased with what he had heard in Belgrade this evening
about the country's dedication to reforms that were started by
recently assassinated Premier Zoran Djindjic as well as the
resolute actions to deal with organised crime.
He added he had come to Belgrade to show strong support of the U.S.
to reforms in Serbia.
State Secretary Powell added that reforms that had been started as
well as reforms in the army and improved co-operation with the Hague
Tribunal would all bring Serbia and Montenegro closer to the
Partnership for Peace programme. The U.S. will help Serbia and
Montenegro in its endeavour to become an integral part of Europe,
Powell said.
Serbia's Premier Zoran Zivkovic said that the fight against
organised crime had been stepped up and reforms would continue in
all areas as would co-operation with the Hague Tribunal so that
Serbia would be a reliable partner to the U.S.

Marovic.
According to a statement from Marovic's office, Powell express
support to the efforts to normalise trade relations between the
U.S. and Serbia & Montenegro and that the U.S. and NATO would
support reforms in the country's army.
