Friedrich Freiherr representing the German foundation addressed
the hosts of the gathering regarding the importance of technical
preparations that Croatia needed to conduct in order to enter the
European Union, particularly in its legislature.
Croatia has good prospects to become a full member of the EU in 2007,
Freiherr said.
Munich's Mayor Horst Reif also spoke at the gathering. According to
Reif, the EU's best move was when it decided to expand to Eastern
European countries.
He said the aim was that Europe be made up of regions and cities.
Citizens need to be aware of the differences that exist and must not
be lost in the EU, the mayor said. Anyone who wishes to remove these
differences will weaken Europe, Horst Reif said.
A united Europe must not swallow regions and cities, Reif said,
adding that the path to the EU was not easy but was well worth it.
