ZAGREB, March 14 (Hina) - The president of the Croatian True Revival
party (HIP), Miroslav Tudjman, said on Friday that national
security was completely neglected in Croatia. #L#
The national security system is completely endangered in Croatia
because the incumbent government established it on totally wrong
foundations, Tudjman told reporters.
He stressed that the government had not developed the system
believing that in the new circumstances of European associations
the issue of national security would be unimportant. This is why it
systematically undermined all segments of the system, from the
intelligence community to the army and police, he said.
Tudjman said the ruling coalition was not capable of reaching an
agreement on the leaders of intelligence services, let alone the
services' functioning.
If Croatia wants to be stable and safe with a role of factor of peace
and stability in the south-east of Europe, then the security system
must function in all segments, said Tudjman.
HIP deputy president Zeljko Sacic said that the chances for any
organised criminal group in Croatia having anything to do with
events in Belgrade (the assassination of Serbian prime minister)
were almost minimal.
In the context of the developments in Serbia, deputy president
Nenad Ivankovic commented on, as he put it, the endangered economic
and social segment of the Croatian national security.
He said that the Croatian authorities had before spoken about
Serbia as fruitful soil for the Croatian economy, and were today
claiming that Serbia was facing chaos.
He recalled that the Croatian government had even announced the
cancellation of the visa regime with Serbia.
HIP deputy president, Admiral Davor Domazet said that the
precondition for a good functioning of the national security system
were articulated national interests, which Croatia did not have, so
it did not know how to defend them.
It is up to the executive authority to establish dialogue with
people who know something about the issue, said Domazet.
