Parliament on Monday. #L#
Robertson made the statement in response to a question by Jelko
Kacin of the strongest party in Slovenia, the Liberal Democrats,
with regard to relations between NATO and the former Yugoslav
countries after Slovenia, as the first in the region, will join NATO
next year.
Croatia accepted the Membership Action Plan last year and so there
was not enough time before the summit in Prague for Croatia to
receive an invitation to NATO, Robertson said. Nevertheless,
Croatia is progressing well, as far as democracy is concerned and
the development of its military abilities, the NATO official added.
He voiced confidence that if that progress should continue Croatia
would be another former Yugoslav country to become part of the
community of democratic countries.
