ZAGREB/BELGRADE, Feb 27 (Hina) - Two Croatian Post (HP) workers
were on Wednesday stopped by Serbian customs officials at the
Bartovci border crossing and were placed in custody over night, the
Croatian Maritime Affairs, Transport and Communications Ministry
reported Thursday. #L#
The two van drivers were carrying parcels from Belgrade to Slovenia
in line with an agreement signed by the Croatian and Serbian posts
on the transport of parcels to and from third countries, the
ministry's post and telecommunications department told Hina.
Serbian customs officials, who are on a go-slow strike, stopped the
van and unpacked the parcels. Among them was an allegedly suspect
one, according to the customs officials, so the two drivers were
brought before a magistrate and then into custody in Novi Sad. After
a night spent in detention, they were released.
The post and telecommunications department said they had no
information about any suspect parcel, but asserted the Serbian
customs officials had overstepped their authority, since they had
no right to open parcels sent in line with the said agreement
between the two posts.
