Based on a statement by HDZ president Ivo Sanader given on Tuesday
after a joint session of parliamentary committees for internal and
foreign affairs, some media assessed that the HDZ had diminished
its support to the American policy towards Iraq.
The HDZ had a clear and consistent stand on the Iraqi crisis from the
start, said party officials.
"We want to warn the Croatian public that the government wavered
from one standpoint to another, while the HDZ had a clear and
consistent view of the Iraqi crisis from the very start," the party
said in a press release and stressed that the HDZ believed that
without transatlantic cooperation there was no security for the
European continent.
The HDZ applauded the latest statement by the European Union which
"shows Europe's determination and readiness for a joint fight with
the United States and other allies in the anti-terrorist
coalition."
