Thursday's press release, signed by Military Vicar Josip Santic,
warns that the so-called preventive war against Iraq "can in no way
be placed in the category of a defence war".
The statement stresses that the Ordinariat is expressing its views
in very dramatic circumstances, in the midst of a possible armed
conflict with hints of a global extent, which remind of the
circumstances in which the world found itself ahead of World War
Two, and spurred by the recent document of the Vatican's
Congregation for Religious Doctrine about certain issues regarding
the participation of Catholics in the political life and many
statements by the Holy Father, the most prominent representatives
of the Catholic Church, renowned people from cultural life, in line
with a general consensus of the peace-loving public.
