ZAGREB, Feb 10 (Hina) - Last year 8.32 million tourists vacationed in Croatia, six percent more than in 2001, accounting for 44.7 million overnight stays, three percent up from the year before, the Central Bureau of Statistics said on
Monday.

Seven million foreigners accounted for 83.4 percent of the entire
figure, a six percent increase over 2001. They also accounted for
88.8 percent of all overnights -- 39.7 million -- which was three
percent more than in 2001.
The number of domestic tourists went up five percent, to 1.37
million, accounting for almost five million overnights, down one
percent from 2001.
Last year only the Germans, which were the most numerous, and the
Italians exceeded the figure of one million arrivals, unlike the
Slovenes and the Czech, who recorded a drop compared to 2001.
With 1.48 million arrivals, the Germans were responsible for the
biggest increase, of 14 percent. They also accounted for 10.8
million overnights, 11 percent more than in 2001.
The Italians are next with four percent more arrivals -- 1.09
million -- and three percent more overnights -- 4.8 million.
The Slovenes are third with 869,900 arrivals, down one percent, and
4.99 million overnights, a drop of two percent.
Tourists from the Czech Republic accounted for 697,900 arrivals,
six percent less than in 2001, and for 4.5 million overnights, a
decrease of seven percent.
The Austrians are next with 690,300 arrivals, an increase of one
percent, and 3.5 million overnights, a drop of two percent.
In December Croatia was visited by close to 117,000 tourists who
made 274,700 overnights, which was on the level of December 2001.
