"According to available information, such requests have not
arrived for now," Ambassador Svjetlan Berkovic, the head of a
foreign ministry's task force following the Iraqi crisis, told
Hina.
He said that if the U.S. requested Croatia's assistance, the
country's leadership would decide on the issue.
Berkovic reiterated that Croatia advocated a unified and effective
action by the international community towards Iraq, and stressed
that its priority was a peaceful solution to the crisis.
"This also means that Iraq must abide by obligations from U.N.
resolutions, which, according to a recent report by U.S. Secretary
of State, Colin Powell, it had obviously not done," Berkovic said.
He added that the task force continued to follow events with regard
to the Iraq crisis and regularly reported to the president,
premier, parliamentary president and other state institutions.
