The Holy Father forwarded greetings to the head of the Serb Orthodox
Church, Patriarch Pavle, expressing a wish for the Orthodox and
Catholic Churches to work on elements uniting them, adding that he
would personally promote such efforts.
The pope called on Churches in the region to work towards healing
the wounds of the latest conflict, which, he said, should result in
sincere forgiveness and brotherly cooperation. The Holy Father
said that he had information that some campaigns had been launched
in this direction and expressed a wish for such efforts to continue
and be realised with the contribution of all, both on the local and
regional level. The pope stated that the Catholic Church, which is
present in Serbia and neighbouring countries, would work towards
the realisation of that goal.
