The presentation called "Croatian Story" was organised by
Croatia's consulate-general in Subotica in cooperation with the
municipality and was intended primarily for the Croat community
living the Vojvodina region.
It featured the Croatian state television's tamburitza orchestra,
Zagreb's opera singers, Dalmatia's harmony-singing groups, and a
presentation of Vukovar-Srijem County's economy and tourist
offer.
Although many Yugoslav, Serbian, regional and municipal officials
had been invited, only a few local ones appeared.
Jasmina Kovacevic, Croatia's general consul in Subotica, said the
Croat community in Vojvodina had remained aware of its national
identity and historical roots, as demonstrated by the recent
establishment of the Croatian National Council in Yugoslavia, the
recognition of its status as a national minority, the publication
of the Croatian Word weekly, and use of mother tongue, among other
things.
She added the Croatian Story project carried a strong message from
the homeland and linked Croatia and Yugoslavia.
A Croatian delegation which attended the event was headed by Boris
Maruna, president of the Croatian Heritage Foundation.
