SERBIAN RADICALS' LEADER SAYS ATTEMPT WAS MADE TO KIDNAP HIM FRIDAY

BELGRADE, Feb 1 (Hina) - The leader of the Serbian Radical Party, Vojislav Seselj, said on Saturday that an attempt had been made to kidnap him on Friday night and hand him over to the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague. A large group of plain-clothes policemen was seen in the vicinity of his house in Batajnica outside Belgrade, Seselj said, adding that the group's task was to arrest him and other indictees of the tribunal.
BELGRADE, Feb 1 (Hina) - The leader of the Serbian Radical Party, Vojislav Seselj, said on Saturday that an attempt had been made to kidnap him on Friday night and hand him over to the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague. A large group of plain-clothes policemen was seen in the vicinity of his house in Batajnica outside Belgrade, Seselj said, adding that the group's task was to arrest him and other indictees of the tribunal. #L# Seselj said the attempt to kidnap him was thwarted by his bodyguards. The leader of the Serbian Radicals also claims that a group of agents of "Britain's SAS arrived in Belgrade to train Serbian policemen and take part in the arrest of Ratko Mladic, Jovica Stanisic (former head of the Serbian State Security Service), Goran Radosavljevic Guri (commander of the newly- established Gendarmerie), Veselin Sljivancanin and Sreten Lukic (head of the Serbian Public Security Service). Seselj said that he had booked a plane ticket for The Hague for February 24 and was willing to cooperate with the UN tribunal. Yugoslav Foreign Minister and head of the Yugoslav Council for Cooperation with the UN tribunal, Goran Svilanovic, told the Beta agency today he had no knowledge than any indictment against Seselj had arrived from The Hague and that Seselj had not been discussed at any of his meetings with international diplomats and representatives of the UN tribunal.
