Addressing reporters after the talks, the head of state said the
HAZU was the place where the knowledge of the Croatian people was
concentrated, and added that only countries which invested in
science and education succeeded. Mesic admits Croatia's
investments for this purpose are still insufficient but that the
trend is good. He expects more funds to be earmarked for science and
education.
Mesic and Padovan also discussed an initiative of the HAZU -- the
Academy's Declaration on Knowledge -- which calls on all to invest
more into knowledge. For the Croatian president, this is the
simplest path towards Europe.
Academician Padovan said Mesic's to the HAZU was historic because
he dedicated much time and showed interest in all details of the
Acedemy's work.
