"The pact envisages that the countries on the Balkans, in a broader
sense the states-successors to the former Yugoslavia, should
organise in a certain way. A regional agreement is possible in a
variety of combinations. If we take part in a joint Italian-
Slovene-Hungarian brigade, why should we not have a regional pact
on security," the former commander of the JNA district for Zagreb
said at a lecture he gave in Maribor on Thursday.
Slovenia does not need NATO because of European prospects and
membership of the Partnership for Peace. If Slovenia enters the
alliance, it will have to accept its doctrine which allows the use
of cluster bombs and chemical weapons, Kolsek said.
