The two sides pointed to the need of continuing the policy of good
neighbourly relations as an integral part of Croatia's bids to join
the European Union and secure peace in the region. The importance of
Croatia's support to Bosnia-Herzegovina in its aspirations to join
Euro-Atlantic associations was also stressed.
The ministry's statement further notes that another topic at the
meeting was economic co-operation and Croatia's activities in the
field of economic diplomacy.
The third topic of the talks was the status of the Croat people in
Bosnia-Herzegovina and ways to resolve issues concerning their
survival. The diplomatic staff informed the minister of the
activities concerning the establishment of a Croatian cultural
centre and the expansion of other institutions. Those institutions
should enable Croats to exercise their rights and nurture Croatian
ideals and culture, the statement said.
The participants in the talks warned about the unsatisfactory
number of people who had returned to their homes, particularly the
number of Croat returnees in Republika Srpska. Along with the
existing mechanisms of assistance and support for Croat returnees,
including, for example, assistance in the form of construction
material, Croatian diplomats have the task to find ways to enhance
that assistance, the statement noted.
