ZAGREB, Dec 31 (Hina) - One of the two Croatian citizens who have been unaccounted for in Thailand since the country was hit by devastating tidal waves last weekend, is alive and well, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Friday.

"Mrs Mirjana Engleitner is in Bangkok and will stay there until January 12 as she planned. She has contacted her friend," Vinko Ljubicic, head of the Foreign Ministry's department in charge of Croatian diplomatic and consular missions, told Hina. Engleitner is a dentist and lives in Graz, Austria.

The fate of Jozo Gudelj, who left the German city of Duesseldorf for Bangkok on December 24, is still unknown, Ljubicic said.

There were 80 Croatian nationals in Southeast Asia last Sunday when the region was devastated by tidal waves known as tsunami, triggered by a magnitude 9.0 earthquake that struck the Indian Ocean.

The first Croatian victim of the tsunami disaster was Vivian Slot, a three-year-old granddaughter of the head of Zagreb University, Helena Jasna Mencer.

According to the latest news agency reports, more than 125,000 people have been confirmed killed in the disaster. As many as 80,000 people have lost their lives in Indonesia alone.
