In attendance were hundreds of locals and guests, representatives of Homeland War associations from Zadar County as well as other counties, local officials, MP Mirjana Brnadic, Interior Minister Marijan Mlinaric, and Transport and Development Minister Bozidar Kalmeta, who delivered speeches.
In the early hours of 18 November 1991, the Yugoslav army, aided by Serb paramilitary units, attacked Skabrnja, breaking its resistance around noon. Skabrnja remained occupied until 1995, when it was liberated in Operation Storm.
On 18 and 19 November 1991, the aggressors killed 44 civilians and soldiers. Eighty-two persons were killed before the village was liberated, including 57 civilians.
