ZAGREB, Nov 2 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic's statement
that Croatia was never at war with Montenegro is an odd statement given that it
came from the man who in 1991 was at the helm of the Libertas convoy which
broke through the Chetnik blockade of Dubrovnik, Istrian Democratic Assembly
(IDS) parliamentary deputy Damir Kajin said on Tuesday."Nobody can deny that Dubrovnik was shelled, that Konavle was robbed by
the so-called Montenegrin corps, 90 percent of which was comprised of
reservists from Montenegro. The fact that it was done in the name of the
Yugoslav People's Army is less important now," Kajin told a news conference.
Croatia must be above intolerance and see Montenegro as a neighbour, the
IDS deputy said and added that in that light Mesic's meeting with Montenegrin
Foreign Minister Miodrag Vlahovic should be hailed.
He, however, stressed that one should not deny that Dubrovnik and the
area had a tragic experience owing to the Montenegrin corps.
